Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How long will LEUSD schools be closed?
Breaking News: by AMENDED public health order posted April 1, 2020, LEUSD and other Riverside County school closures will be extended through June 19, 2020, which supersedes a prior order of March 17, 2020. See attached copy of the AMENDED School Closure Order below. Please watch for Parent Square Updates regarding amended school closure status. Information about current public health orders is available online at the Riverside University Health System-Public Health web site: https://www.rivcoph.org/coronavirus.

Yes, LEUSD will provide free meals for all children age 18 and under, beginning March 23, 2020. Participating school locations, times and guidelines are listed on ParentSquare and on all school and district web sites under "Latest News." This will be a drive-through or curbside service. Click here for school locations, times, guidelines.
  1. What online or ‘distance learning’ resources are available for TK-12 students at home?
LEUSD has developed an online portal for parents, guardians, and caretakers to use at home for instructional enrichment while school closures are in effect. Lessons and activities are organized by grade level and contain age and grade appropriate activities to stimulate critical thinking, to reinforce language arts, math, and other skills, with an emphasis on parent/child interaction. LEUSD will be continually updating this online resource. URL: https://www.leusd.k12.ca.us/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=1695720&type=d&pREC_ID=1856778
  1. Will iPads, PCs, and assistive technology be provided to families in need of such equipment?
A technology distribution plan will be administered for eligible students at each school. The week of March 23, each school principal will be finalizing their distribution process and guidelines for device pick up. Watch for further announcements.
  1. I need to retrieve medications for my child that are still at his/her school, what is the process?
We will accommodate the return of student medications administered by our health techs. Pre-arrangement must be made by contacting the school health tech in advance. Please do not visit your child’s school without pre-arrangement. The parent or guardian will be given an appointment for claiming their child’s medication(s) on March 24, 25 and 26 between the hours of 10 AM and 2 PM.
  1. Will site-based Child Care services still be provided for families who were already enrolled in this service, and, if so, during what hours? Any restrictions?
For the public health and safety of children and LEUSD staff, site-based child care services have been temporarily suspended. LEUSD is awaiting state guidance, in coordination with local public health agencies, before announcing any new information to families that were enrolled in LEUSD’s site-based child care services.
  1. What is the status of student progress reports, current homework and assignments, and grades?
During school closures through April 30, 2020, LEUSD had temporarily suspended student progress reports, homework assignments, and grades. Anticipating the possibility of an RUHS-PH amended order extending school closures through June 19, 2020, LEUSD is introducing a system of grading guidelines authorized under CDE and RCOE, in response to the unique circumstances created by the COVID-19 pandemic. Watch for important announcements.
  1. With TK-12 schools closed, will state testing continue and be completed?
On March 17, 2020, Governor Newsom issued an executive order to suspend standardized testing, pending federal approval. At this time, it does NOT include ELPAC. We are still waiting further CDE/ED guidance on ELPAC testing. There may be future Executive Orders coming in the near future.
  1. Does LEUSD plan to extend the 2019-2020 school year?
No. Based upon information from the California Department of Education (CDE), the 2019-20 school year is not likely to be extended. The State of California has the power to modify the 2019-20 school year under the current state of emergency. Currently, LEUSD is following guidance provided by the CDE to maintain educational programs and other student support services during school closures.
  1. Have you got any news for seniors about Graduation?
Commencement ceremonies and other senior activities have been suspended (new alternative dates are still TBD as we consider health-friendly and responsible options) as a result of the April 1, 2020 RUHS amended public health school closure order, which extends school closures through Friday, June 19, 2020. For the protection of public health, and to avoid the spread of novel coronavirus COVID-19, the current school closure order, and related orders, places a priority on continued social distancing during pandemic surge.
