LEUSD Board of Trustees Appoints Genie Kelley for Trustee Area 2

Genie Kelley to Fill Vacancy until November 2022

Lake Elsinore, Calif., (November 5, 2021)- On November 2, 2021, during a special board meeting, the Lake Elsinore Unified School District Governing Board approved the provisional appointment of Genie Kelley to fill the vacancy of Trustee Area 2, which became vacant following the resignation of Susan Scott effective October 31, 2021. Mrs. Kelley will serve the appointment until the next general election in November 2022. The Trustee Area 2 seat would be open to all qualified candidates to fill the remaining two years of the term until it expires in November of 2024.

Mr. Juan Saucedo made a motion to approve the provisional appointment of Mrs. Genie Kelley to the Lake Elsinore Unified School District (LEUSD) Board of Education, and Mrs. Marybeth Slane seconded the motion. President Dodd said, "On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we are proud to welcome Mrs. Kelley to the Board. Mrs. Kelley's heart of public service and dedication to her community is witnessed in her 30+ years of service as a Teacher in our school District and, upon retirement, a decade of service as an elected official for the City of Lake Elsinore. Not only does she bring a breadth of knowledge of public education, but a spirit of partnership and focus on engagement with families and the community."

In accordance with Education Code section 5091, Genie Kelley was provisionally appointed to the office on November 2, 2021. Unless a petition calling for a special election containing a sufficient number of signatures is filed in the Office of the Riverside County Superintendent of Schools within thirty (30) days of this provisional appointment, it shall become an effective appointment.

Biography

Mrs. Genie Kelley and her husband moved to Lake Elsinore in the 1980s, where they raised their three daughters, all graduates of Lake Elsinore schools. Community engagement and strong community partnership are a priority for Trustee Kelley. Over the past 30 years, Genie has served her community as an educator in the Lake Elsinore Unified School District and a public official for the City of Lake Elsinore. She currently serves as a Board Member for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southwest Riverside County. Trustee Kelley's educational background includes a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on diversity from Azusa Pacific.

Mrs. Kelley and her family reside in Canyon Hills and are members of the Canyon Lake Community Church. Genie and her husband enjoy spending time with their granddaughters, who attend school in the District.

The Lake Elsinore Unified School District covers more than 144 square miles. It serves TK-12 students from Lake Elsinore, Canyon Lake, and Wildomar, plus several unincorporated Riverside County communities, including Lakeland Village, Horsethief Canyon, and The Farm.
